Have you ever wondered about chiropractic? Have you ever wanted more information but didn’t know what to ask? Here are some common questions and answers.
What are vertebrae?
Vertebrae are the bones in your back that fit together so the nerve supply produced in your brain can filter down your spinal cord and out over your nerves. The nerves are responsible for communicating information throughout your body so the the proper growth, repair, and healing can take place. When vertebrae are out of their natural alignment, the potential for nerve interference is great.

When people talk about what chiropractors do, they usually say they work on bones, or maybe the muscles in the spinal area. That is true, but what many don’t realize is that chiropractors also work on the nerves contained in the spinal column that send messages throughout your entire body.
Spine and Nerves Work Together
From the brain, nerves pass down the spinal cord and out to different parts of the body. The nerves leave the spinal cord through the vertebrae, which are the openings between the spinal bones. Since the entire body is under control of the nervous system, when the vertebrae are out of alignment it can disturb normal functions throughout the body.

There is more hope than ever before for children with learning disabilities. There are several types of professionals parents can turn to, but sometimes there is conflicting information which can become confusing!
What Can Chiropractic Do?
There are so many positive results reported on the effectiveness of chiropractors caring for hyperactive children or those with learning disorders. The Texas State Chiropractic Association worked with the director of Psychoeducational and Guidance Services of College Station, Texas, on research studies. Of the 10,000 students referred to him, the ones that had received chiropractic care seemed to show the most benefits.
Case Studies
Here are some examples of case studies obtained from the source listed below:

There are so many parts of your body that become affected when your chiropractor corrects your vertebral subluxations during a chiropractic adjustment. The flow of the nerve impulses in your body are normalized and your body begins to rebalance and renew itself.
How Will I Feel?
After an adjustment, many patients feel peaceful and relaxed. It is also important to know that after the initial adjustment many people feel no difference - that is completely normal. There is still healing occurring under the surface. In fact, some people may initially feel sore or uncomfortable after the adjustment while their body is adjusting to the correction, which you can read more about below. After the first few visits, however, chiropractic patients will find that their problems they initially came in for will begin to lessen.

We hear of so many parents trying to make the difficult decision about whether or not to vaccinate their children. There are many pressures in today’s society to vaccinate children, but as a parent you need to make the right decision for your family.
Do Vaccines Work?
There is an ongoing dispute about vaccines and how they work. What we do know is that before vaccines were invented, the infectious diseases were actually declining. According to the Physicians Desk Reference (Oradell, New Jersey: Medical Economics Co. ‘80, pp. 1980, 1866), “Injections of foreign substances - viruses, toxins, and foreign proteins - into the bloodstream, i.e., vaccinations, have been associated with diseases and disorders of the blood, brain, nervous system, and skin. Rare diseases such as atypical measles and monkey fever as well as such well-known disorders as premature aging and allergies have been associated with vaccinations. Also linked to immunizations are such well-known diseases as cancer, leukemia, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).”

The longest and largest nerve in your body is your sciatic nerve. It begins in your lower back as five smaller nerves joining together and extends to the following areas: pelvis, thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.
Sciatica Pain
When the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed, the pain becomes very intense and causes a condition called sciatica. The pain follows the path of your nerves - it can go down the back of your legs or thighs or radiate into your back. It can cause severe leg pain or back pain.
Other symptoms you may experience are:
burning
tingling
prickling
tenderness
numbness

What Causes Neck Pain?
There are several factors that contribute to neck pain, including supporting and balancing the weight of your head. Other factors that can strain your neck are: regular wear and tear, injuries, stress, tension, and poor posture. Because your neck is aligned in a natural curve at the top of your spine, damage to it can cause painful problems. Chiropractors are also specialized in caring for victims of whiplash.
Characteristics of an Unhealthy Neck
- Vertebrae that are misaligned
- The supportive neck muscles are stretched, torn, or tight
- Torn ligaments
- Pinched, irritated, or stretched nerves
- Bulged, ruptured, or worn down discs

What is a Spinal Adjustment?
A spinal adjustment is when a chiropractor uses a special technique to eliminate or reduce vertebral subluxations in your spine. When you visit a chiropractor for the first time, you can receive an analysis of your spine that will help determine how many subluxations are in your spine and how they can be treated.
During a Spinal Analysis, What Does a Chiropractor Take Into Consideration?
- Which direction are the vertebrae out of alignment?
- Is the patient relaxed enough for a spinal adjustment?
- What is the best technique to use?
- Why is there stress and tension in this area of the body?
- What is the minimal amount of force necessary to realign the spine?
