Sciatic and Leg Pain

The longest and largest nerve in your body is your sciatic nerve.  It begins in your lower back as five smaller nerves joining together and extends to the following areas: pelvis, thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.

Sciatica Pain

When the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed, the pain becomes very intense and causes a condition called sciatica.  The pain follows the path of your nerves - it can go down the back of your legs or thighs or radiate into your back.  It can cause severe leg pain or back pain.

Other symptoms you may experience are:

  • burning
  • tingling
  • prickling
  • tenderness
  • numbness
  • There are also several levels of pain.  There may be throbbing, aching, or a knife-like pain.  When your body moves or changes positions, it may affect the pain. Simple things such as walking, turning, bending, standing or sitting may become too difficult or even impossible to accomplish.

    Sciatica Treatment

Many sciatica sufferers find relief through chiropractic care. It has even saved several patients from having surgery on their spines. Doctors of chiropractic can perform a simple spinal evaluation to determine if you have spinal subluxations that would benefit from a spinal adjustment. If your spine has subluxations, it causes the spine to be misaligned and can cause pressure and stress on your nerves and your entire body.
